The Manipulation of Energy and Energy Form
The Discipline of Sorcery has one basic component and three specializations:
The main component of Sorcery is Spellcasting.
Spellcasting is the ability to read magical formulae, and to memorize, rack and cast spells.
The three specializations are:
Formula Creation allows a caster to understand the basic laws of spellcasting, and the forces that allow sorcery to work. Mastery of this specialization allows a sorcerer to create new spell formulas.
Absorption is a skill that allows sorcerers to comprehend the direction of energy in spells they see cast. Mastery of this specialization allows a sorcerer to memorize and energy pattern and duplicate a spell by watching someone else use it. They cannot, however, record it into a spellbook without first learning Formula Creation.
Vision allows a sorcerer to shift their vision to the range that can see the interflow and interaction of energy patterns. This allows the sorcerer to percieve magical effects, and compliments the specialization of Absorption, making it require less intense concentration. Vision also allows the sorcerer to determine the magical quality of items or persons.
Learning the complete Discipline of Sorcery allows a sorcerer to use all the concentrations in conjunction. Each one supports and amplifies the other. It is difficult for a sorcerer who has only studied portions of the art to use sorcery in conjunction with other magical skills, such as conjuration or alchemy.
The Advanced Manipulation of Energy and Energy Forms
The Discipline of Advanced Sorcery has ten levels of advancement. The study of Advanced Sorcery requires knowledge of both Conjuration and Sorcery.
Sorcery differs from Conjuration and Alchemy, in that in it's advanced study, the sorcerer does not learn new skills, but instead becomes more proficient in the handling of magical energy.
The higher levels of Advanced Sorcery allow the sorcerer to cast spells quicker, with more precision, and to store more condensed forms of energy in spell racks. This allows the racking of more spells per item, and speedier resetting of items as well. Also, at higher levels, a sorcerer can create new spells and cast them as needed. The levels of Advanced Sorcery are:
Spells take 50 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 9 minutes each.
Spells take 45 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 8 minutes each.
Spells take 40 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 7 minutes each.
Spells take 30 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 6 minutes each. Increased energy efficiency raises total number of available spell racking slots by 2.
Spells take 25 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 5 minutes each.
Spells take 20 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 4 minutes each. Increased energy efficiency raises total number of available spell racking slots by 3 (one more than level 4).
Spells take 15 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 3 minutes each.
Spells take 10 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 2 minutes each. Increased energy efficiency raises total number of available spell racking slots by 4 (one more than level 6).
Requires High-Compelling. Spells take 5 minutes to cast, Lynchpins take 1 minutes each. Increased energy efficiency raises total number of available spell racking slots by 5 (one more than level 8).
Spells with Lynchpins take only a few minutes to completely cast. New formulae can be invented and cast, with lynchpins, in 2 to 5 minutes (depending on complexity).
Advanced Sorcery, at it's highest levels, allows the near instant manipulation of energy forces. This requires the sorcerer to have studied other Magical Disciplines as well, including Conjuration and High Compelling, not as a requirement to casting, but for the understanding of real-time manipulations which are more commonly used in the Conjuration Discipline.
